BIO
Born in Yerevan, Armenia, Anael Ghazaryan is an artist whose work transcends boundaries, blending spirituality, intellectual exploration, and abstract symbolism. Raised in a creative environment, Anael’s artistic path began under the influence of her mother, Gayane Zakyan, a celebrated painter and member of the Armenian National Union of Artists.
From 1993 to 2002, she was raised in Moscow, where her formative years were immersed in literature and the arts. During this time, she refined her skills and expanded her vision at the Yegor Matita Art School, laying the foundation for her distinctive artistic voice.
This early interdisciplinary fascination would later lead Anael to complete a micromaster course at the University of Cambridge ‘Reinterpreting Space: Installation and Performance Art’, graduating with honors in 2023.
Adding to her artistic lens, Anael holds a master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy. This academic pursuit not only enriched her global perspective but also deepened her understanding of the complexities of how the world operates. This mindset continuously informs her art, prompting profound questions about society, humanity, and the structures that shape our existence.
Anael’s work often explores the fusion of traditional art with modern technology. This interest was showcased during her participation in the 2022–2023 program by the International Finance Corporation, where she presented innovative applications of technology in fine art, earning recognition as one of the standout contributors.
Her exhibitions reflect her evolution as an artist. Between 2017 and 2021, she held four solo exhibitions in Yerevan, displaying works that explored abstract and surreal themes.
In 2022, her participation in the international exhibition ‘Guardians of Dreams’ at M.A.D.S. Gallery (Italy and Spain) marked a shift toward integrating technology into her creative process.
In 2024, she received the ‘Best Artist of the UAE Pavilion’ award at World Art Dubai, where her paintings were praised for their philosophical depth and surreal compositions.
Critics describe Anael’s style as a harmonious blend of abstract symbolism and surrealism, where dreamlike elements collide with the impossible, creating visual narratives that provoke thought and evoke emotion. Her art serves as a mirror to both the spiritual and the intellectual, embodying a belief in humanity’s potential for transformation amidst the realities of life.
Based in Tbilisi, where her studio is currently located, Anael is preparing for her next major milestone: a Solo Exhibition and Immersive Show at the Art in Space gallery in Dubai. This groundbreaking event will feature a physical presence of her artwork alongside live performance, further cementing her commitment to pushing the boundaries of contemporary art.
"Anael Ghazaryan is an Armenian artist with a unique and provocative style. Her art is free from clichés and classical canons, with paintings of strong expressive power.
The artist, influenced by her cross-cultural experiences, combines expressionism and surrealism, taking us on a journey through multiple realities. In her works we see the subjective vision of reality, typical of expressionism, and the Surrealist element of dream and the unreal, skilfully fused together through unusual juxtapositions of different elements, irreconcilable in the real world.
Through this art form, the artist realises strong symbolism that strikes the viewer from the first glance at the canvas and highlights the main part of a painting, namely its message."
